Yesterday’s T20 World Cup Match Results, SA vs USA: Still vying for an ICC trophy, South Africa beat the United States of America by 18 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Group 2 match played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. South Africa, after being invited to bat, first posted a massive total of 194 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs but USA, even after a stable opening partnership, fell short in the end.

The game between Aiden Markram and Aaron Jones‘ teams was the opening game of the Super 8 stage of the marquee event, and South Africa are now on top of Group A with two valuable points and a net run rate of 0.9.

Wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock and Kagiso Rabada were the top performers for South Africa in their first match of the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup. While de Kock scored 74 runs off just 40 balls, Rabada bowled a brilliant spell to restrict the hard-hitting USA batters.

Top scorers

De Kock, whose last big score in T20Is was a century against Windies in March 2023, was the top run scorer for South Africa on Wednesday (June 19). He faced a total of 40 balls and with the help of seven fours and five sixes, scored 74 runs. He built a match-winning 110-run partnership for the second wicket, along with skipper Markram, who scored 46 runs from 32 balls (four fours and one six).

For USA, wicketkeeper-batter Andries Gous scored 80 runs from 47 balls, but couldn’t take his team over the line.

Top wicket-takers

Rabada finished as the highest wicket-taker in the match, finishing with brilliant figures of 4-0-18-3, dismissing Steven Taylor, Nitish Kumar and a set Harmeet Singh. For USA, Harmeet and Saurabh Netravalkar finished with two wickets apiece. The latter bowled a brilliant spell of 4-0-21-2.
