The holiday season just got that much sweeter. For the second consecutive season, Week 13 of the NFL season continues into Black Friday, when the Las Vegas Raiders will spend Thanksgiving week traveling to face the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs (10-1) will battle the Raiders (2-9) in Week 13 on Black Friday, the second meeting of the season between the division rivals. During Week 8, the Chiefs defeated the Raiders in Las Vegas 27-20.
The Chiefs are enjoying another outstanding season and sit at the top of the AFC West standings. Las Vegas enters Week 13 following a 29-19 loss to the Denver Broncos. The Raiders have had a disappointing 2024 season but will look to play spoiler in the AFC West the remainder of the season. They have an opportunity on Black Friday to upset the Chiefs and show some fight while other teams fight for the playoffs.

The Raiders travel to Kansas City on Friday afternoon to take on the Chiefs. This is the second of two matchups between the division rivals this season.

The Chiefs and Raiders faced off on a holiday last season, resulting in a shocking upset on Christmas Day in 2023. The two-time defending Super Bowl champs will look to avoid a similar fate on Friday afternoon.
There is a long, heated history between the two franchises. The Chiefs have been spectacular this season, but they were handed their first loss against the Bills in Week 11 and needed a walk-off field goal as time expired to defeat the lowly Panthers in Week 12.
With consumers around the country wrestling over discounts, they might be inspired by Maxx Crosby and his unstoppable motor for the Raiders defense. He’ll have his hands full against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. In the upset last season, the Raiders scored two defensive touchdowns. They will need similar magic to shock the Chiefs again.
Raiders QB Gardner Minshew suffered a season-ending collarbone injury in Week 12, forcing the Raiders to turn to Aidan O’Connell, reports say.
The Chiefs are massive favorites to win the game. According to FTN, the Raiders are 29th in team total DVOA, while the defending champions are seventh overall. The Chiefs are expected to get reinforcements on offense with the return of running back Isiah Pacheco.
Following the Chiefs’ narrow victory over Carolina on Sunday, Mahomes was vocal about sometimes wanting to win in blowout fashion. If Mahomes ‘ wishes come true, it could be a dark Black Friday for the struggling Raiders.
For 59 years, the NFL has played games on Thanksgiving. Expanding the NFL schedule into the holiday weekend started in 2023 with the first-ever Black Friday game.
With the history of Thanksgiving football’s success, there is an intriguing possibility that the NFL will dominate viewership on Black Friday as well. Last season, the NFL set a Turkey Day viewership record for the second consecutive year. The average viewership across all three games was 34.1 million, the highest Thanksgiving Day average on record, surpassing the previous record of 33.6 million the year prior. The Black Friday game averaged over 9.6 million viewers.
For perspective, the average NBA viewership on Christmas is just over 4 million. Since the 1960s, a law has barred the NFL from playing games on Fridays after 6 p.m. ET, so kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET.
