The end of the regular season in NFL is really just the start of the anxiety-filled post season, where the kittens are separated from the cats and the stakes grow exponentially as the games fly in thick and fast. We’ve had the final power rankings, the Super Bowl favourites and already questions are being asked about the futures of various stars. And now I’m nervous.
As well as the growing jeopardy, the post season also brings with it the individual awards, which have had time to cook and are ready to be handed out. Amongst them sits the 2024 NFL MVP of the season accolade, the most coveted of the individual prizes, awarded for outstanding performances across the campaign.
This year, Josh Allen looked all but certain to take home the trophy, but a few names have crept up behind him and now the battle appears well and truly on. Lamar Jackson is one such person: the Ravens quarterback has clearly been one of the season’s best, with 3,678 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, and would be deserving of such a reward, along with the Bills QB, who has guided his side to a near-perfect year.
We also can’t forget names such as Joe Burrow and Saquon Barkley, nor Jared Goff and Sam Darnold for outside bets. Whoever wins will be fully deserving of the 2024 NFL MVP award, and your guess, dear reader, is as good as mine.
Since 2022, the NFL Honors Awards Ceremony has been held on the Thursday before the Super Bowl, and in the same city as the big game.
This year, as a result, the date for crowning the new king of the NFL is set for February 8 and will be held in the magical city of Las Vegas.
