There’s only one place the Saints have been marching into this season – the training room.

Injuries have taken their toll on New Orleans’ roster. Wide receiver Chris Olave is just one of many Saints to be bitten by the injury bug, but multiple concussions in the same season make his situation a little more serious than others. The receiver hasn’t played since Week 9, and whether he’ll take the field again before this season concludes is a mystery.

Here’s the latest on Chris Olave.

Chris Olave injury update

Olave was placed on IR ahead of Week 10 after suffering a second concussion in less than a month. That designation carries a mandatory absence of four games, and with the Saints on a bye in Week 12, Olave’s potential return can’t come until Week 15.

New Orleans hasn’t ruled the 24-year-old out for the season, but it’s unclear if they’ll have a change of heart with their season having gone down the drain. Injuries have decimated the Saints’ roster, especially in the receiver room.

When was Chris Olave injured?

Olave was most recently injured in Week 9 when he was sandwiched between two Carolina Panthers defenders. Safety Xavier Woods delivered the worst of the hit, which resulted in a concussion for the receiver.

Saints WR depth chart

With Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Bub Means on IR, the Saints’ receiving room has been put through the wringer in 2024. The team signed Valdes-Scantling after he was released from Buffalo following the team’s trade for Amari Cooper. MVS and Wilson each bring seven years of experience, while Tipton signed as an undrafted free agent.

Chris Olave stats

Olave has hauled in 32-of-44 targets through eight games in 2024, totaling 400 yards and one touchdown. The third-year pro was on pace for his worst season thus far, which is interesting considering the Saints’ early-season success. Olave seemingly took a backseat to Shaheed, who was seeing better production.

While the receiver can still return this season, there’s some intrigue regarding Olave’s future following multiple concussions and another lost season in the bayou. Olave’s brother, Josh, fueled the flames when he said on X, formerly Twitter, “Ain’t worth it in Nola, I’ll tell you that,” when replying to a post that questioned whether the receiver should continue playing.

Olave previously posted back-to-back seasons of at least 1,000 yards receiving and finished fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2022.
