- The Chargers are in the driver’s seat for the No. 6 seed in the AFC playoff bracket. With a win, they all but seal that spot. With a loss, it’s less certain but still very likely. New England kept things close with Buffalo through three-quarters last weekend and could give the Chargers some trouble on the road.
- Denver enters Week 17 as the No. 7 seed but heads on the road to face a team looking to play spoiler. The Bengals have the lowest chance of the three AFC teams in the wild card hunt (Indianapolis and Miami the others) but things can change with a win at home against the Broncos. One issue: Denver’s become one of the best pass defenses in the league in the second half of the season.
- The lone divisional matchup of the day is a crucial NFC West battle in Los Angeles. The Cardinals ran over the Rams in a 41-10 win in Week 2, but that was long ago. Los Angeles is in the top spot in the division, playing at home. A win for the Rams would push the Rams one step closer to sealing the division title ahead of a Week 18 home matchup against the Seahawks at home.
