When the Texans and Giants face off Saturday afternoon in Week 2 of the NFL preseason, all eyes will be on the respective quarterbacks.
Last year, C.J. Stroud led Houston to its first playoff appearance since 2019, cementing himself as one of football’s young stars in the process. Now, expectations are high, and Stroud seems primed to one-up his fantastic rookie season.
The second-year pro aced his lone drive in last week’s preseason opener, going 2-of-4 for 41 yards and a touchdown pass to one of his top targets, Tank Dell.
Whereas Stroud is looking for an encore of last season, Jones would like to forget his 2023 campaign: He played in only six games and struggled when healthy. Now, on the heels of a torn ACL, he will look to rediscover his 2022 form, when he led the Giants to the playoffs and earned a contract extension.
Jones, cleared for contact, is set to make his preseason debut against the Texans. Tommy DeVito saw the bulk of the action last weekend.
