Former Australian batter Stuart Law, who previously served as head coach of Bangladesh and the West Indies, was appointed as the USA’s head coach in April 2024, and during his time at the top job, the USA stunned Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 match and also went on to qualify for the Super Eights of the 20-team tournament played from June 1 to 29 in the West Indies and USA. But in less than seven months after his appointment, the 56-year-old Australian was sacked from his job following allegations of discrimination by players.

Law was relieved from his duties after the USA lost by 10 wickets against Scotland in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, 2023-27, match played at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas on Friday (October 25).

According to a report in Cricbuzz on Saturday, the reason for Law’s dismissal is allegations of discrimination, mistrust, and favouritism for a certain set of players levelled by 7-8 senior players, most of whom are of Indian origin, including the captain, Monank Patel. The decision comes on the back of a formal investigation instituted by the USA cricket board after the Netherlands tour in August 2024.

As per multiple sources, the relationship between the players and head coach became sour after a number of incidents during the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Netherlands tour.

According to Cricbuzz, in a letter penned by the players, they alleged how ‘his malicious outlook towards a few players has brought the team environment to its lowest ebb’. The letter further alleged how ‘he infused an air of mistrust amongst team members through his lies and deceit’. It also claimed that the ‘discriminatory tactics’ against a group of players left the players ‘alienated and completely demoralised’.

The letter accused Law of attempting to turn USA cricketers against captain Patel by ‘lying through his teeth’. Apart from Patel, Indian-origin players like Harmeet Singh and Milind Kumar also faced issues with Law.

The USA team that participated in the T20 World Cup 2024, which was co-hosted by the USA and West Indies in June 2024, had many players of Indian and Pakistani origin in its ranks.
