Jannik Sinner will be the top seed at the 2024 US Open, while Novak Djokovic is set to be seeded second ahead of Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.

Sinner, who won his maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open in January, has occupied top spot in the ATP Rankings since June and is into his 11th week as the world No 1. The 23-year-old Italian claimed his fifth title of the season at the Cincinnati Masters.

Djokovic and Alcaraz will be the second and third seeds respectively for the second consecutive major following last month’s Wimbledon Championships. Zverev will be the No 4 seed — as he was at the All England Club.

Sinner and Djokovic will, therefore, not be able to meet before the final, while Alcaraz could be on the same side of the draw as either of the top two seeds.

Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz and Casper Ruud will be seeded fifth to eighth respectively.

With their five top 20 stars, the United States will be the nation with the most seeded players in the men’s singles draw at their home major: Taylor Fritz (12), Ben Shelton (13), Tommy Paul (14), Sebastian Korda (16) and Frances Tiafoe (20).

Italy have the next highest total with four, with Sinner (1), Lorenzo Musetti (18), Matteo Arnaldi (30) and Flavio Cobolli (31) all in seeded positions.

Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the US Open, but he would have been unseeded despite his protected ranking of world No 9. The Spanish legend had appeared on the entry list to give himself the option to compete.

Cameron Norrie, who was ranked 42nd at the time of the entry list, is the only other player who has pulled out from the men’s singles event.
