The 2024 US Open is the final grand slam tennis tournament of this calendar year, and as such anticipation is high as the world’s best players arrive in Flushing Meadows, New York City, for one of the sport’s most well-known and historic events. First held all the way back in 1881, this will be the 144th edition of the biggest tennis competition held on American soil.
The home crowd will all be rooting for Florida’s Coco Gauff, who won her first grand slam singles title with a 2-6 6-3 6-2 victory over Aryna Sabalenka at last year’s tournament. She may be seeded third behind Sabalenka and world number one Iga Swiatek coming into this year’s event, but expect every swing of the racket from Gauff to be cheered to the rafters in Queens.
Five US women’s players feature in the top 14 seeds alone heading into the first round draw, and it’s a similar story on the men’s side too. Sebastian Korda and Frances Tiafoe are both seeded in the top 20, with Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul ranked 12th, 13th and 14th respectively.
