Though flag football has been around for a long time, it is now being recognized in new ways, including being considered an Olympic sport. Naturally, when everyone thinks about adding football of any kind to the Olympics, they gravitate towards including players in the NFL to compete.

This makes sense considering the NFL is home to world-class players like three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes and the Chiefs have been at the top of the NFL for the past five years, and Mahomes is widely considered to be the best quarterback in the NFL.

Though it would make sense for NFL players to be called on to represent the United States in flag football for the Olympics, this has led to flag football quarterback Darrell Doucette taking umbrage with not being included in the initial conversation about being added to Team USA.

Now, Doucette has come back with more confidence, claiming he is better than Mahomes.

Doucette spoke to TMZ Sports, stating he is far better than Mahomes, especially in the world of flag football.

“I’m not hiding from the competition, none of my teammates nor anybody else in the flag football world are hiding from the competition,” Doucette said. “But at the end of the day, I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game. I know he’s right now the best in the league, I know he’s more accurate, I know he has all these intangibles, but when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than him.”

Doucette is correct in stating that he likely knows more about flag football than Mahomes, considering he has been in the game for quite some time. However, to indicate that he is better than Mahomes at being a quarterback is a bit much.

Mahomes is a champion and can pull off throws like nobody else in the NFL. It would be assumed that he can do the same in a flag football setting.

Doucette has continued to state that he and the rest of the flag football community will stake their claim to represent Team USA in the Olympics, and it would be assumed whoever wants to join the team will have to compete. Even if Mahomes does not make it, it would be believed that many NFL players would likely be trying out to take home some Olympic gold.
