What To Expect From This Year’s Black Friday Deals

Black Friday always brings discounts in almost every category you can think of. Of course, in some years, the deals are better than others. Below, our senior deals editor Kara Cuzzone shares her thoughts on what consumers can expect in 2024.

More Deals Overall

With this year’s rise in economic uncertainty, we’re likely to see more deals overall this Black Friday. Retailers will be encouraging shopping this holiday season, and offering more discounts is a tried-and-true way to entice consumers. I predict that we’ll see even more markdowns than usual from big-box stores, and there may even be some deals from brands who don’t typically participate in Black Friday as they look to move some of their inventory.

Markdowns On Everyday Essentials

In recent months, our editors have noticed that shoppers seem focused on stocking up on everyday essentials. Retailers have likely picked up on that as well, so I’m anticipating a shift toward more deals on personal care products and household must-haves instead of the typical focus on gift-worthy items.

An Uptick In Rare Deals On Big-Ticket Items

Black Friday often brings about the lowest prices of the year on big-ticket items, and I expect to see retailers lean into that even more in 2024. Pricier items that were in high demand in previous years—like the Dyson hair dryer or the PlayStation 5—are no longer selling as well. Brands may be more willing to offer deals on these rarely discounted items than they were in the past in order to renew consumers’ interest.
