Team USA has done it again, winning their fifth consecutive gold medal in Men’s Basketball. And they couldn’t have done it without Stephen Curry.

In a thrilling final pitting the United States against France, USA came out on top 98-87. Despite holding onto the lead for more than 87 percent of the game, this happy ending could have been an upset if not for a litany of clutch three-pointers from Curry.

Largely considered the greatest shooter in the history of basketball, Curry led Team USA with 24 points on 8-for-13 shooting. All eight of Curry’s buckets came from the three-point line and he also scored three in a row in the last two minutes to cement USA’s victory. He also had five assists and two steals.

LeBron James and Kevin Durant also had strong showings. James scored 14 points going 6-for-10 while also earning 10 assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Durant boasted 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Defensively, Anthony Davis was a major standout with four of the United States’ six blocks, two steals, and a game-leading nine rebounds. He also scored eight points.

Devin Booker also had a standout performance, scoring 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, France put up a heck of a fight, with reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama proving he belongs on the court with the other NBA superstars.

Wembanyama led the game in scoring, scoring 26 points on 11-for-19 shooting. he also recorded seven total rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Right behind him was Guerschon Yabusele, who scored 20 points. However, this was with a 43 percent field goal percentage. He also only made seven of his 10 free throws.

However, this was not enough to put away Team USA, specifically Steph Curry. In the end, the game came down to three-pointers, and Curry is the best in the business. The United States made twice as many three-point shots as France.

On top of this, France only made 59 percent of their free throws. If they made the other seven, momentum could have easily swung in their favor.

In his first Olympics, Curry proved to be an integral part of Team USA, especially in the final two games against France and Serbia.

The United States spent the majority of the game against Serbia in a deficit due to incredible play from reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and Bogdan Bogdanovic. Fortunately, Curry came in clutch, recording an astounding 36 points and eight rebounds. That’s 60 points across two games.

Now, Curry can finally add the final accolade he’s been missing from his trophy case: Olympic gold medalist.
