New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler continues to generate hype for a team that otherwise has some mild vibes and projections chasing it into the 2024 season.
Case in point, Rattler—not Derek Carr, the team’s cuts, prospects in the NFC South or something else—slotting as the top takeaway before Week 1.
That comes from Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon:
“OK I’m back on the Spencer Rattler bandwagon. At the very least, there’s a not-too-low ceiling there and I’d love to see them give the rookie fifth-round pick some work in what I’m convinced will be a lost season in New Orleans.”
This comes after Rattler put on a fantastic performance in the preseason finale, where he looked sharp on everything from incompletions to his touchdown strike.
The Saints might be trying to quell the hype a bit by going as far as refusing to name a No. 2 quarterback behind Carr right now, but it’s pretty clear it’s not Jake Haener.
Try as they might, the Saints won’t get far in stopping fans from hyping up the former No. 1 recruit out of high school who has already shown flashes in the pros. It doesn’t help that those “lost season” accusations after three years without a playoff berth and obvious salary cap woes ring true.
At this point, most fans probably wouldn’t argue against seeing some of Rattler sooner rather than later over the first couple of months if things go off the proverbial rails.
