Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions: Predictions and latest odds for NFL Week 4

September 29, 2024

The “Monday Night Football” matchup between the undefeated Seattle Seahawks and the Detroit Lions promises to be a defining moment in the 2024 NFL season for these two teams.

Having made it to the NFC Championship game last year, the Lions are determined to replicate their success. Their recent 20-13 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, following a 20-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, is a display to their determination. Despite their offense gaining more yards per game compared to the 2023 season, they are striving to score at the same level.

The Lions are up against a formidable opponent in the 3-0 Seattle Seahawks, under the leadership of new coach Mike Macdonald. Seattle’s start to the season has been nothing short of impressive, becoming the first team since the 1979 Pittsburgh Steelers to start a season 3-0 while allowing fewer than 150 passing yards in each game. However, they will be missing key players when they face the Lions, with outside linebackers Uchenna Nwosu and Boye Mafe listed as questionable, among other notable names.

Here’s the latest odds and predictions for the Seattle Seahawks vs. Detroit Lions on “Monday Night Football” in Week 4 of the 2024 NFL season.

USA Today‘s Tyler Dragon: Lions 21, Seahawks 20

Dragon writes: “First-year head coach Mike Macdonald is an early NFL Coach of the Year candidate. The Seahawks are the first team since the 1979 Steelers to start 3-0 and allow fewer than 150 passing yards in each of their first three games in a season, per NFL Research. But the Lions are going to be Seattle’s toughest test yet.”

Sporting News Vinni Lyer: Lions 31, Seahawks 27

Lyer writes: “The Seahawks have taken care of the Broncos, Patriots, and shorthanded Dolphins, with two of the games being at home. This is a tough Monday night road trip, despite the fact they have recent experience winning in Detroit with Geno Smith. The Lions found their pounding running game again last week to alleviate Jared Goff. The Seahawks’ offense will be cooled just enough vs. the best defense it has seen this season.”

Sports Illustrated: Seattle Seahawks

Staff writes: “The Seahawks could have trouble on the ground vs. the Lions who have allowed just 2.76 yards per carry to opposing running backs this  year, but Geno Smith should not have trouble getting the ball to his talented receiving corps. No QB has more completions (77) than Geno Smith this season. It seems like the Seahawks are due for a loss, but I don’t see a pathway for the Lions to win this decisively.  I’m buying the points for Seattle Monday Night, and I’ll also have a sprinkle on Seattle to win outright.”

Winners and Whiners: Detroit Lions

Michael Briggs writes: “I expect the Lions to show their pride on Monday night, exposing a beaten-up Seahawks squad with a well-rounded performance at home. Detroit should be able to run the football with ease against the visitors’ depleted front and Goff has been money indoors (26-9 ATS indoors). The city is buzzing following the Tigers’ postseason berth, which ain’t gonna help Seattle’s cause, either. Bet the Lions, 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games as betting favorites, to win and cover on Monday Night Football!”
