Beyoncé to perform at halftime for NFL Christmas Day game on Netflix
Beyoncé will perform in her hometown of Houston during an NFL Christmas Day game streaming on Netflix.
One of the most beloved football analysts on television, former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Robert Griffin III was shockingly let go from his football analyst role at ESPN in August this year due to budget cuts at the company.
However, Griffin’s charming demeanor and elite football knowledge earned him a new gig rather quickly. On Monday, it was revealed that he’ll be coming to your television screens this holiday season.
Griffin isn’t the only big name scheduled for the games. Beside him will be other highly-touted analysts such as ESPN’s Mina Kimes, NFL Network’s Manti Te’o, and former NBC analyst and Super Bowl-winning quarterback Drew Brees.
Here’s everything to know about RG3’s return to on-screen analysis.
Reports indicate that the decision was made due to budget issues. Griffin, who had two years left on his contract with ESPN at the time, was unaware that his job was on the line. Following his departure from the company, Griffin made an appearance on the “Rich Eisen Show” to discuss his confusion with ESPN’s decision.
“To say I was surprised,” said Griffin. “I had already been assigned a team, Rich, for college football.”
Griffin had gained popularity as a broadcaster due to his on-screen charisma and creative quips. After news of his firing broke, Griffin received tons of support from fans across the internet, which Griffin claims was a large reason he decided to stay involved in the broadcasting business.
Griffin parted ways with the Baltimore Ravens in 2021. Griffin signed his contract with ESPN in August that same year. He served as an analyst for both college football coverage and “NFL Live.” Griffin eventually joined “Monday Night Countdown” in 2022, but was ultimately replaced by Jason Kelce ahead of the 2024 season. He was fired shortly after that decision was made.
The NFL doubleheader that will feature Griffin on the broadcast team is set for Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024.
The games in question will be the Kansas City Chiefs at the Pittsburgh Steelers, starting at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the Baltimore Ravens at the Houston Texans, beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET. Both games will be available on Netflix.
