The 2024 NFL season will begin with a rematch between perhaps its two best quarterbacks.

Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs host reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens Thursday night in the first game of the regular season. The Chiefs beat the Ravens, 17-10, in last season’s AFC Championship game.

This is the fourth time since 2017 the Chiefs have been featured in the NFL kickoff game, an event the league introduced for the 2002 season. The game has traditionally been played at the home stadium of the Super Bowl champion.

This will be the sixth career meeting between Mahomes and Jackson, with Mahomes and the Chiefs owning a 5-1 record in those games. They’ve combined to win the past two NFL MVPs, and four in the past six years. They’ll add another chapter to this rivalry Thursday.
