Philadelphia Eagles at Cincinnati Bengals: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 8 game

October 23, 2024

After a 1-4 start to the season, the Cincinnati Bengals have earned back-to-back wins, just one more away from a .500 record. However, their test in Week 8 will be their toughest in a month as they face the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles have won two straight contests themselves however, including a 28-3 thrashing over the New York Giants. But they still have a lot to play for, as they find themselves a half game back of the Washington Commanders in the NFC East. With a showdown with Washington less than a month away, the Eagles need every win they can muster so that when Week 11 rolls around, Philadelphia will have an opportunity to take sole possession of first-place in their division.

Cincinnati, meanwhile, is just trying not to fall too far behind their AFC North counterparts, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. The Bengals aren’t in a position to catch up immediately, but two of their next five contests will be against those competitors, and they can’t afford to be behind by more than two games when they roll around.

Here are our experts’ predictions for this Week 8 showdown.

Lorenzo Reyes: Eagles 26, Bengals 20

I think the wrong team is favored here. Philadelphia is still flawed, but now that it is healthy, they are a much more complete team. The Bengals cannot stop the rush; the Eagles — with Saquon Barkley popping off — rank second in the league in rushing. I like Philly on the moneyline.

Tyler Dragon: Eagles 27, Bengals 26

The Bengals have won two in a row. Is this the time when Cincinnati makes its midseason surge? Not quite. The Bengals beat inferior opponents. The Eagles rushing offense with RB Saquon Barkley and QB Jalen Hurts’ mobility is going to cause problems for Cincy.

Richard Morin: Eagles 29, Bengals 22

Philadelphia may be finding its stride. Cincinnati, meanwhile, continues to struggle to keep its head above water.

Jordan Mendoza: Bengals 27, Eagles 25

It may have been against bad teams, but it feels like Cincinnati is starting to play some good football. Philadelphia is coming off a good game but they are susceptible to letdowns, and it lets a win slip through its hands.
