The New England Patriots hit the road with a roster change off the edges.
The organization signed rookie defensive end Jamree Kromah off the Chicago Bears’ practice squad on the eve of Thursday night’s matchup with New York Jets.
In a corresponding 53-man move, veteran outside linebacker Oshane Ximines has been placed on injured reserve and will now miss a minimum of four games.
Kromah, 24, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in April. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound former transfer from Rutgers to James Madison did so after totaling 60 tackles, 11 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery as a redshirt senior with the Dukes. He cleared waivers at the end of the preseason before signing to Chicago’s practice squad at its formation in August. Prior to then, the rookie had been selected by the San Antonio Brahmas in the fifth round of the 2024 UFL draft.
Ximines, 27, had been ruled out on the final injury report after departing from what became an overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Due to a knee issue, the 6-foot-4, 254-pound Old Dominion product stayed sidelined throughout the short week of walkthroughs before landing on injured reserve. Chosen by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft at No. 95 overall, Ximines stands 50 games, 72 tackles and 6.5 sacks into his career. The April arrival in Foxborough logged 14 snaps on defense and 29 snaps on special teams this September.
The Patriots also ruled out offensive tackle Vederian Lowe, guard Sidy Sow and defensive captain Ja’Whaun Bentley for the AFC East opener. An additional four members of the active roster move forward as questionable.
Thursday’s kickoff at MetLife Stadium is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
