Newcastle United vs. Tottenham Hotspur prediction: English Premier League picks

August 31, 2024

After up and down seasons, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are expected to fight it out for a spot in the top-4 in the English Premier League in 2024-25.

Not only do the two clubs have very similar expectations for the new campaign, they also approach the game in the same way.

Both Newcastle and Tottenham want to be on the ball, keep it moving and play on the front-foot.

It’s no wonder this game is lined as a pick’em at the time of writing.

It’s been a weird start to the season for Newcastle.

The Magpies were gifted a soft opening match to the campaign when newly-promoted Southampton traveled to the Northeast, but an early red card threw that game off script and put the Magpies in a tough spot.

Newcastle would get the three points thanks to a 1-0 win, but it was not as straightforward as the odds suggested before kickoff.

Newcastle then traveled to the South Coast to take on a rising Bournemouth side and were rather fortunate to get a point. Injuries and suspensions have played a part in Newcastle’s wonky start, but it is concerning considering this team did underwhelm for much of 2023-24.

Tottenham have also endured a bit of a roller coaster to begin the new campaign.

They drew with Leicester City as big favorites in their opening match and then dominated Everton, 4-0, last weekend.

Both of these clubs should offer plenty going forward, but they also have plenty to sort out defensively if they’re going to mix it up with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal at the top of the table.

That will take time, however, and I’d imagine this match will live up to the billing as a back-and-forth affair that features plenty of scoring chances at both ends.
