The New York Jets (2-5) and New England Patriots (1-6) are not having the seasons they wanted. Which one can get a glimmer of hope in Week 8?
The trade for Davante Adams figured to be what the Jets needed, but it didn’t do anything as they got steamrolled by the Pittsburgh Steelers in primetime. New York has lost four straight games, and it needs a win if it wants any chance of living up to the preseason expectations.
Jerod Mayo summed up his team perfectly after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars for their sixth straight loss. “soft.” There isn’t much to be excited about in New England other than the fact Drake Maye has looked good in his two starts. But the Patriots would like to end the longest losing streak in the league.

Lorenzo Reyes: Jets 23, Patriots 10
I would think this is the perfect time to back the Jets: against a weaker opponent, with their backs truly against the wall. Yet, I would still proceed with caution, as New York self-implodes with penalties and lack of focus. The Jets should win, and even by a touchdown or more. I have just learned to not expect much from this team.
Tyler Dragon: Jets 26, Patriots 17
This is a must-win game for a Jets team with playoff and Super Bowl aspirations. It’s time to push the panic button if the Jets lose to a rebuilding Patriots club. Davante Adams was held to three catches for 30 yards against a stout Steelers defense. The Patriots aren’t the Steelers.
Richard Morin: Jets 24, Patriots 21 (OT)
The Patriots are looking much better with Drake Maye at the helm, but the Jets are reeling and desperate for a win. I can see this one going down to the wire. New York picks up a much-needed victory.
Jordan Mendoza: Jets 19, Patriots 13
The New York offense has a chance to be good, but it’s not going to be there quite yet. However, the Jets’ defense makes a statement after it got embarrassed by Pittsburgh by making life tough for Drake Maye.
