Jerry Rice talks all things San Francisco 49ers
NFL legend Jerry Rice stops by to talk all thing 49ers and his new partnership with Rold Gold.
After a stunning defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, the San Francisco 49ers have found themselves in unfamiliar territory. They are at the bottom of the NFC West standings. While injuries to players like Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey will certainly hinder a team’s chances of winning, the team is still talented enough to beat an 0-2 Rams team, right? That is, of course, unless the team’s new $30 million receiver gets outshined by Jauan Jennings.
The New England Patriots, meanwhile, were looking like a surprisingly competent team through two weeks. They beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 and took the now 3-0 Seattle Seahawks to overtime in Week 2. Week 3 was a different story though as the entire world watched Aaron Rodgers and the Jets dominate New England on national television. So, which of these two teams will put their horrendous Week 3 performances behind them?

In theory, this is a game San Francisco should easily win. But the team’s play the last two weeks, with all its injuries, doesn’t inspire me to back them by double digits. The concern is the defense, now on its third different defensive coordinator in as many seasons, which is allowing far too many explosive plays.
Brock Purdy had a 137.1 passer rating and Jauan Jennings had career-highs in catches (11), receiving yards (175), and touchdowns (3), and the shorthanded 49ers still managed to lose last week. The 49ers won’t spoil good performances from reserve players this week, but their injuries are beginning to mount.
A visit from the mediocre Patriots will be a welcome sight for the 49ers, who desperately need some momentum in their favor after a 1-2 start. The spread is pretty large and the over/under is pretty low, however, so I’d be wary of putting action on this one.
San Francisco is spiraling with two straight losses and plenty of injuries, but playing the lowly Patriots comes at the right time. The defense makes a statement in an easy win.
