A classic AFC East matchup is on tap for fans as the New England Patriots travel to MetLife to take on the New York Jets for Thursday Night Football. While both teams will feature Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks (technically), each team’s strength lies in their defense.

The Patriots were expected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this year. However, after defeating the Bengals in Week 1, New England proved their victory wasn’t a fluke by pushing a tough Seattle team to overtime before ultimately losing. Somehow, a .500 season or even a playoff berth doesn’t seem out of the question early on.

The Jets, meanwhile, bounced back from a tough Week 1 loss to San Francisco and were able to overcome Tennessee‘s stout defense to earn a 7-point victory. While Aaron Rodgers has not looked bad to start the year, Jets’ fans had hoped he would elevate their offense to previously unseen heights. However, through two weeks, that hasn’t happened. Against New England’s solid defense, Rodgers, Hall, and Wilson will each need to step up in order to walk away with the victory.

Lorenzo Reyes: Jets 21, Patriots 17

Aaron Rodgers and the New York offense still haven’t entirely found their footing, so it’s difficult to see a touchdown being a given. Still, the Jets have the better roster, so I like them to win straight up, but the Patriots have been a tough out and I think their defense keeps things close.

Tyler Dragon: Jets 24, Patriots 16

The Patriots are better than I thought. Credit first-year coach Jerod Mayo for New England’s 1-1 start. The Jets are entering a four game homestand. Aaron Rodgers and company have a prime opportunity to begin the first quarter of the season strong.

Richard Morin: Jets 23, Patriots 22

The Jets got back on track last week, but the Patriots — despite an overtime loss — showed us they’re a competitive outfit. I expect New England to fall short, but I’ll take the Patriots with a spread this big.

Jordan Mendoza: Jets 17, Patriots 12

New York found a rhythm in Tennessee but now faces a tough Patriots defense. Luckily for the Jets, its defense makes it hard for New England to score.
