NFL Week 6 Overreactions: Cowboys, Saints and Jaguars get blown out
Mackenzie Salmon breaks down the top storylines from Week 6 in the NFL.
Sports Seriously
The Miami Dolphins headed into their Week 6 bye with a 2-3 record and a serious problem at quarterback. However, despite a week of rest, their problems have not disappeared. Miami may only be a game and a half out of first place in the AFC East, but so long as Tua Tagovailoa is sidelined, the Dolphins‘ explosive offense looks more like a firecracker than TNT. That said, the offense should have plenty of opportunity for explosive plays facing an Indianapolis Colts defense that has surrendered the third-most yards in the NFL.
Of course, the offense is just half the battle. Miami’s defense has been one of the surprises of the first half of the season. They’re currently surrendering only 5.2 yards per play, ninth-best in the league. Can Joe Flacco or Anthony Richardson, whoever the Colts will opt for at quarterback in Sunday’s matchup overcome such a stout defense?

Saints vs. Broncos | Jaguars vs. Patriots | Falcons vs. Seahawks | Bills vs. Titans | Browns vs. Bengals | Packers vs. Texans | Colts vs. Dolphins | Vikings vs. Lions | Giants vs. Eagles | Rams vs. Raiders | Commanders vs. Panthers | 49ers vs. Chiefs | Steelers vs. Jets | Buccaneers vs. Ravens | Cardinals vs. Chargers
The Dolphins are so thoroughly unreliable when Tua Tagovailoa isn’t playing that it’s hard to back them, even if they’re coming off a bye week. The Colts aren’t exactly consistent, and Anthony Richardson hasn’t exactly had a productive season. Either way, I would wait in the week to see what the status is on Indy running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) before making any decision.
Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is still on injured reserve. Colts QB Anthony Richardson (oblique) is on track to return. I expect Richardson’s return to spark Indy’s rushing attack. But Richardson must take care of the football. He has six interceptions in four games. The Colts have the third-worst defense in the NFL, but can Miami’s offense find a rhythm without Tagovailoa? The recent tape says no.
Joe Flacco is getting the job done in Indianapolis. I like the under, but I also like the Colts’ chances to break above .500 on the season.
Miami has looked lost in recent weeks, but this would be a good game for its explosive stars like Tyreek Hill to break out and get a much-needed win to keep the season alive.
