Mexico face the daunting task of reversing their pre-Copa America struggles against one of the world’s most dominant national teams when they meet Brazil from Kyle Field on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station.
El Tri were blasted 4-0 by an in-form Uruguay side in their first warmup friendly on Wednesday, and the vibes couldn’t be worse with the Copa America right around the corner.
They have been trending downwards ever since a disappointing 2022 FIFA World Cup saw Mexico booted in the group stage, failing to build any kind of consistency from a player or coaching standpoint. Current boss Jaime Lozano is already under fire for recent failures including a 2-0 defeat to the United States in the CONCACAF Nations League final back in March.
Brazil are also looking for a turnaround from recent results, as they have disappointed in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying, where they sit sixth in the table, but positive showings against England and Spain in the March international window provide hope for a return to their place atop the international stage.
Brazil are not in their best form, but Mexico are as vulnerable as ever at the moment, having been pummeled by Uruguay 4-0, a scoreline which was completed by the 49th minute.
The Selecao beat England and drew with Spain back in March, and have all the talent the world can offer in their squad. Brazil are far from a flawless side, and their issues will be exposed at the Copa America, but against a Mexico side in its biggest rut for decades, they will have an enjoyable evening.

Mexico are a disaster right now at every single position. For the spots they have talent at, they lack depth, and at other places they have few inspiring options at all. Defensively, El Tri are an utter disaster, as Uruguay’s Darwin Nunez utterly shredded them early and often midweek.
They have conceded two or more goals six different times since the start of last September — to the likes of Germany, USA, Colombia, Australia, Uzbekistan, and most recently Uruguay. Every time they face a top side, they are battered at the back. Unless Mexico can keep up by being ruthless at the other end, they will be well beaten in this game and other more important games as the summer moves along.
