The two best teams in perhaps the best division during the 2024 NFL season will meet in the marquee matchup on the Week 9 schedule.
The defending NFC North champion Detroit Lions (6-1) are set to visit the Green Bay Packers (6-2) for a game pitting playoff teams from a year ago that are off to strong starts again. The winner will have an early leg up in the NFC North race this season.
The Lions lead the league in scoring behind a balanced offense featuring quarterback Jared Goff, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and the rushing tandem of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. They’ve won five games in a row, a stretch that included three games in which Detroit scored at least 42 points and a win over the previously unbeaten Minnesota Vikings.
The Packers take a four-game winning streak heading into Week 9, but quarterback Jordan Love’s status is uncertain due to a groin injury he suffered in last week’s 30-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Love was limited in practice this week. If he can’t start, Green Bay would likely turn to backup Malik Willis. He went 2-0 as a starter when Love was hurt earlier this season.
