Ellen DeGeneres turns the lens on herself in the new trailer for her upcoming and final Netflix special, For Your Approval. Watch the clip below.
“Let me catch up on what’s been going on with me since you saw me last. I decided to take up gardening. I got chickens,” she says, while setting up the punchline. “Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business.”
DeGeneres follows up by addressing the allegations of a “toxic work environment” which ultimately led to the end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Here’s the problem, I’m a comedian who got a talk show and I ended the show every day by saying, ‘Be kind to one another,’” she says. “Had I ended the show by saying, ‘Go fuck yourselves,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind.”
Here is the special’s official logline: “Ellen gets personal and reveals what she’s been doing since being ‘kicked out of show business.’ From the mundane world of raising chickens and parallel parking to the harsh reality of becoming a brand name celebrity, she goes deep into her stand-up roots and brings the laughs through life’s most real and absurd realities.”
Earlier this summer, DeGeneres said on her final standup tour that she was “done” with the spotlight after this Netflix special. “This is the last time you’re going to see me,” she added. During previous stops, the comedian admitted she “hated the way the show ended” and found the experience “devastating.”
For Your Approval hits Netflix on September 24th.
