The U.S. men’s national team paid dearly for its two winless matches earlier this month, in the latest FIFA rankings that were released on Thursday morning.

The Americans dropped two places to 18th place, below Concacaf archrival Mexico.

Playing twice on home soil under interim head coach Mikey Varas, the USA lost to Canada, 2-1, and played New Zealand to a 1-1 draw. The Canadians were ranked 38th, the Kiwis 85th.

Certainly not the most productive of month for the U.S., which named Mauricio Pochettino as head coach last week.

The USMNT hosts Panama in Austin, Texas on Oct. 12 and visits Mexico in Guadalajara on Oct. 15.

At the top of the heap, world champion Argentina remained No. 1, as the top 14 teams were unchanged.

For the record, that includes France (second), Spain (third), England (fourth), Brazil (fifth), Belgium (sixth), Netherlands (seven), Portugal (eighth), Colombia (ninth) and Italy (10th).

The next ranking is set for Oct. 24.
