Dallas Cowboys at Pittsburgh Steelers: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 5 game

October 2, 2024

play

Two of the most historic franchises in the NFL will meet in “Sunday Night Football” with the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) hosting the Dallas Cowboys (2-2).

Nowadays, when things aren’t looking good in Dallas, just play the New York Giants to turn it around. The Cowboys got another victory over their NFC East rival to get to .500 heading into a tough stretch, possibly without Micah Parsons.

The Steelers are no longer undefeated after a slow start and the resurgence of Joe Flacco doomed them in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts. It was the defense’s worst outing of the season so far, so it will try to get back to being a strong unit against an old foe.

NFL Week 5 odds, predictions and picks

Falcons vs. Buccaneers | Vikings vs. Jets | Bears vs. Panthers | Bengals vs. Ravens | Texans vs. Bills | Jaguars vs. Colts | Patriots vs. Dolphins | Commanders vs. Browns | Broncos vs. Raiders | 49ers vs. Cardinals | Rams vs. Packers | Seahawks vs. Giants | Steelers vs. Cowboys | Chiefs vs. Saints

Lorenzo Reyes: Steelers 18, Cowboys 14

I would stay away here. Both teams have underwhelmed. The Cowboys cannot run the ball and Pittsburgh’s defense can be smothering. Yet, the Steeler offense stagnates, especially with Najee Harris having a disappointing season. I think this comes down to the running game that gets the most production, which is why I’m leaning Pittsburgh.

Tyler Dragon: Steelers 24, Cowboys 23

A matchup between two marquee NFL teams. Justin Fields has solidified himself as the Steelers starting QB whether Mike Tomlin wants to admit it or not. Pittsburgh’s three wins are in large part due to stout defense. The Steelers defense has some advantages upfront against the Cowboys. Dallas star Micah Parsons is dealing with a tender ankle.

Jordan Mendoza: Steelers 20, Cowboys 17

Micah Parson’s availability will be critical in this one. If he doesn’t play, the Steelers offense has a chance to make some plays. The raucous crowd aids the Pittsburgh defense to a hard-fought victory.
