Joe Burrow and Caleb Williams struggle, Lions take down Rams in OT
Sports Seriously’s Mackenzie Salmon ‘overreacts’ to the biggest storylines from Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.
Sports Seriously
The Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) and Cleveland Browns (0-1) had expectations going into this season, and if they want to meet those, they’ll need to get a win in Week 2.
About anything that could go wrong went wrong for Cleveland, getting embarrassed by the Dallas Cowboys in front of a home crowd that had no problems booing its team. Deshaun Watson looked nothing like the quarterback he was paid to be, and the pressure is rising for him to deliver.
Jacksonville looked like it was going to make a statement against its in-state rival Miami Dolphins, building a 17-7 halftime lead. Instead, the Jaguars were shut out in the second half and headed home with a loss.

Dolphins vs. Bills | Ravens vs. Raiders | Panthers vs. Chargers | Cowboys vs. Saints | Lions vs. Buccaneers | Packers vs. Colts | Jaguars vs. Browns | Vikings vs. 49ers | Patriots vs. Seahawks | Titans vs. Jets | Commanders vs. Giants | Cardinals vs. Rams | Chiefs vs. Bengals | Broncos vs. Steelers | Texans vs. Bears | Eagles vs. Falcons
This is a tough game for me because I still have faith in the Browns defense and think it’s one of the better units in the NFL. But I hate backing teams that are wildly inconsistent, and that’s exactly what Cleveland is on offense with Deshaun Watson at quarterback. Jacksonville has struggled holding on to leads, so the Jags aren’t a safe play either. I’d stay away from this one, to be honest, but will cautiously back Jacksonville at home.
Pressure is starting to mount on Deshaun Watson. He had a terrible Week 1 performance. Is Watson ever going to regain the form he had in Houston? It’s easy to have more confidence in Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars in this one. Jacksonville hasn’t started a year 2-0 since 2018.
Jacksonville gets one back while Cleveland continues to pile up the question marks. I like the Jaguars and the points.
This one will be a defensive slugfest. Jacksonville was able to contain Miami for nearly all game last week, and the Cleveland defense will want to rebound after it got exposed by Dallas. Still, there’s little faith in Deshaun Watson being able to lead the team to a victory.
