As a result of his victory in the Juddmonte International Stakes Aug. 21 at York, City of Troy [127] is now the second-highest rated horse and highest rated turf horse in the seventh edition of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2024.
The Kentucky-bred 3-year-old by Justify has won three straight Group 1 races for trainer Aidan O’Brien.
Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline winner Laurel River retained the top rating at 128.

City of Troy surprised many by leading from the start in the Juddmonte International. He ultimately defeated Calandagan [125] by a length while setting a new course record in the process. City of Troy, who has also won the Coral-Eclipse Stakes and Betfred Epsom Derby this year, raised his rating to 127 from 123 with his triumph.
Calandagan, meanwhile, is now in the co-third position in the rankings. He came into the Juddmonte International having won the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot by six lengths, and his other victories this year include the Group 3 Prix Hocquart and Prix Noailles.
Also joining the Top 5 is Fierceness. The Repole Stable homebred City of Light colt improved his rating to 123 from 121 when he defeated Thorpedo Anna [120] by a head in the DraftKings Travers Stakes.
Sierra Leone [120] was third, while Dornoch [121] was fourth.
Fierceness came into the Travers having won the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes Presented by Mohegan Sun, and earlier this season, he won the Curlin Florida Derby.
