NFL Week 10 best bets: Why you should consider Lions, Eagles and Bills
Lorenzo Reyes is back with his three best bets ahead of Sunday’s games.
Carolina Panthers running backs are hitting some notable milestones as they prepare to play in the NFL’s lone Germany game of the 2024 season.
Jonathon Brooks is expected to debut for the team. The second-round rookie missed the first half of the NFL season while recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during his final season at Texas. He is expected to become a key part of Carolina’s running back rotation.
However, the Panthers‘ backfield leader, Chuba Hubbard, won’t be quietly ceding the role to the rookie. Instead, Carolina rewarded the fourth-year veteran with a lucrative contract extension.
“We are excited to sign Chuba to an extension and keep him in Carolina,” Panthers general manager Dan Morgan said in a statement announcing the deal. ” He exemplifies everything we want on and off the field. Chuba is passionate about football, is productive and is committed to his teammates and winning.”
Hubbard, 25, is in the midst of a career-best season. He is on pace for his first-ever 1,000-yard game, as he has generated 665 yards and five touchdowns through nine games while averaging an impressive 5 yards per carry.
How much did the Panthers pay Hubbard? Here’s what to know about his extension with the Panthers and where it ranks among the NFL’s highest-paid running backs.
Hubbard signed a four-year contract with the Panthers worth up to $37.2 million with a base value of $33.2 million. Below is a look at the full details of his deal in Carolina, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Hubbard’s new deal marks a hefty raise from the final season of his rookie contract with the Panthers. The 25-year-old is making $3.1 million in base salary and carries a cap hit of just under $3.3 million.
That means Hubbard will see a raise of $5 million when analyzing the contract on a per-year basis.
Several metrics can be used to measure the NFL’s highest-paid players. AAV (average annual value), total guarantees, and total contract value are the most popular among them, with AAV showing the best estimate of a running back’s yearly value.
Hubbard cracks the top 10 in all three major categories, according to Spotrac.com.
