Halloween candy leftovers: How to make hot chocolate
Turn leftover Halloween candy into delicious hot chocolate.
Problem Solved
We know candy isn’t exactly good for your health or your teeth, but let’s face it: We all need to satisfy a sweet tooth every once in a while. From children to those in their golden years, candy shops are for all to enjoy, as Southern Living notes.
“And it’s not just because of the candy — it’s the childlike wonder, the fond memories, and the sweet taste of nostalgia that draws you in,” the magazine reads. “In the South, it’s clear we have never lost our love for sweet treats.”
Whether preserved in time or embracing a modern flair, Southern candy stores offer something for everyone. From sculpted chocolates to massive lollipops, from sweet pralines to sour gummies, Southern Living has compiled a list of the best candy shops in each Southern state.
Big Top Candy Shop in Austin takes the cake as the best candy store in the Lone Star State. The antique circus-themed store on South Congress proclaims itself “The Most Amazing Candy Store the World has Ever Known.” Big Top first opened its doors in October 2007.
Here’s what Southern Living had to say:
“Prepare to be amazed by the colorful interiors and whimsical décor of this circus-themed candy store. As the first candy shop in the United States to offer chocolate-covered bacon, Big Top Candy Shop is well versed in leaving an impression. Enjoy a beverage from the old-fashioned soda fountain as you peruse over 300 varieties of bulk candy and more than 2,000 kinds of wrapped candy. When you arrive, don’t forget to greet Peanuts the Elephant, pictured on the South Congress sign above the shop’s entrance.”
