American Women Are Back in Tennis: Five Players Ranked in WTA’s Top 15 | Sports-Games

July 15, 2024

In a striking achievement for American tennis, five players from the United States are now ranked in the Women’s Tennis Association’s top 15, the USTA announced on Monday. World number two Coco Gauff spearheads the American contingent, with Jessica Pegula, ranked sixth, and Danielle Collins, who has risen to ninth during a stellar farewell season, also making the list.

Additionally, Madison Keys holds the 14th position while Emma Navarro has climbed to a career-high 15th place following her first major quarter-final appearance at Wimbledon. The last occurrence of such dominance by American women in the WTA rankings was on May 24, 2004, when Lindsay Davenport was ranked fourth.

This marks a significant milestone and highlights the revival of American women’s tennis on the global stage.
