AER Lingus has announced a brand new route to a top US destination – and prices start at just €499 return.

The Irish airline will fly Europe’s first direct flights to Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, from Dublin Airport from May 3, 2025.

Those hoping to travel to the ‘Crossroads of America’ can choose from four flights per week from Dublin Airport.

The Indianapolis flight marks the 19th direct destination to North America from Dublin that Aer Lingus has to offer.

Like all transatlantic flights, the journey to Indianapolis includes complimentary meals and personal in-flight entertainment screens.

Indianapolis Governor Eric Holcomb announced the news of the connection sharing his “pride” that the new route connects those in Indiana with those in Ireland.

Governor Holcomb said: “Today I have some very exciting news to share, starting in May of next year 2025.

“Ireland’s flag carrier Aer Lingus will provide non-stop service to Dublin from Indianapolis with seamless connections to 20 destinations across Europe and the United Kingdom including Paris, London, Frankfurt, Rome and Amsterdam.

“This new direct flight is more than just a route, it’s a gateway that strengthens Indiana’s ties to Ireland and the whole of Europe.

He continued: “I couldn’t be more proud of the partnership between the Indianapolis Airport Authority, Aer Lingus, the IEDC, the city of Indianapolis and the Indy Chamber for making this connection a reality.

‘STRUCK GOLD’

“This new route connects Hoosiers directly to Ireland and offers a seamless connection to major European cities and for European business and leisure travellers to discover Indiana.”

He added: “So I think it’s pretty clear we struck gold.”

With plenty to do in Indiana’s most populous city, the city is famous for sports – including the world’s biggest one-day sporting event the Indianapolis 500.

Known as the Indy 500, the motorcar race has taken place since 1911 and sees up to 300,000 people flock to the city.

The Indy 500 takes place around Memorial Day weekend, which is May 26 – meaning the flights come just in time for visitors to make it to the great race.

Indianapolis is a haven for art lovers who can snap photos at any of the 60 pieces of public art in the city or travel to the art galleries and cafes around the city or a show at Fountain Square.

Sports fans can head to a tour of any of the three state-of-the-art stadiums in the city, which are home to their sports teams, including the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts, the NBA’s Indiana Pacers and Minor League Baseball’s Indianapolis Indians.

There are over 80 acres of green space at White River State Park with museums, outdoor live music venues and lots of outdoors to explore in downtown Indianapolis.

There are 17 local craft breweries to explore for those who love a beer, and the city is a historic spot for blues music enthusiasts.

Fans can head to John Dillinger’s former hangout or travel to the 1933 Lounge above the iconic St. Elmo’s Steakhouse.
