According to Racing HQ host Steve Hewlett, the star hoop was taken to hospital and will undergo surgery following the incident.

“Just spoke with James Orman. Top of his finger was bitten off by a horse this AM,” he said via social media platform X.

“He was removing a tongue tie at the time. Just arrived at hospital. Surgery awaits.”

Orman spoke briefly to Punters.com.au about the injury.

“It just took the tip off when I was putting the tongue tie on,” he said.

“Definitely felt it and I’m just getting X-rays at the minute.”

Orman has ridden close to 1300 winners during his career to date and finished second behind William Pike in last year’s national jockeys title.

He recently spent time riding in Dubai as he continues to make a name for himself.
