A few weeks have passed since the 2024 MLS season concluded, with the LA Galaxy clinching the title over the New York Red Bulls. However, some teams remain focused on preparations for the upcoming campaign, set to kick off in just a couple of months.
Among those gearing up is the Columbus Crew, who have begun preparing their schedule for the new season. On Wednesday, the team announced one of the most anticipated matches of the regular season.
Columbus will host Inter Miami on April 19, but the match, featuring Wilfried Nancy’s team against the reigning Supporters’ Shield champions, will take place at a rather unexpected venue. Instead of Lower.com Field in Columbus, the game will be held in Cleveland.
The Crew shared on social media that the match will be relocated to Cleveland’s Huntington Bank Field, home of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns. The decision is expected to draw a significantly larger crowd, as the change of venue was strategically planned to maximize attendance.
The Columbus Crew’s decision to move the game to Huntington Bank Field is purely strategic. Lower.com Field, with its 20,000-seat capacity, would limit the number of fans able to attend.
In contrast, Huntington Bank Field can accommodate up to 67,431 fans—more than three times the capacity of the Crew’s home stadium. By relocating the game, the team aims to provide more supporters with the opportunity to witness this high-profile match.
