Susie Wiles was named as President-elect Donald Trump’s White House chief of staff on Friday, his campaign announced. The 67-year-old’s appointment is Trump’s first major decision after being elected. He said: “Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history. Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again”.
“It is a well deserved honour to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud,” Trump said in his statement.
The White House Chief of Staff, one of the president’s closest advisors, is involved in coordination between the president and executive departments. Wiles will also oversee staff in the role.
The Chief of Staff also helps shape policy agendas, controls access to the president, and acts as a liaison with Congress and other government bodies. Additionally, they handle crisis management and often serve as a key strategist in the president’s political and legislative initiatives.
The salary for a White House Chief of Staff varies, but it typically aligns with senior federal executive pay levels. On average, it is around $180,000 to $200,000 annually, depending on the administration. This amount falls under the Executive Schedule Level II pay, which is used for top government officials.
