Los Angeles Chargers at Cleveland Browns: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 9 game

October 30, 2024

After finally being forced to move on from quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Cleveland Browns gave Jameis Winston a shot. Wouldn’t you know it, their offense looked miles better, earning the team their second win of the season, over a very tough Baltimore Ravens team.

Now though, the Browns won’t have the luxury of facing an opponent they are familiar with. Instead, they’ll face a balanced Los Angeles Chargers team that loves to run the clock down. Jameis Winston loves to air balls out, so perhaps the Chargers‘ game plan will backfire this weekend.

Here are our experts’ predictions for this Week 9 showdown.

NFL Week 9 odds, predictions and picks

Jets vs. Texans | Falcons vs. Cowboys | Ravens vs. Broncos | Bills vs. Dolphins | Panthers vs. Saints | Bengals vs. Raiders | Browns vs. Chargers | Giants vs. Commanders | Titans vs. Patriots | Cardinals vs. Bears | Eagles vs. Jaguars | Packers vs. Lions | Seahawks vs. Rams | Vikings vs. Colts | Chiefs vs. Buccaneers

Lorenzo Reyes: Browns 24, Chargers 18

Cleveland’s offense was far more potent with Jameis Winston under center, and, as long as he can play cleanly and avoid turnovers, I expect the Browns to be more competitive, especially because the defense is still loaded with a bunch of talent. The Chargers are still a little banged up at receiver, which remains a concern.

Tyler Dragon: Chargers 23, Browns 20

The Chargers’ pass offense has shown incremental improvements in recent weeks. While the Browns offense performed much better with Jameis Winston behind center. The Chargers have the NFL’s No. 1 scoring defense. The Chargers muster up enough points to survive in Cleveland.

Richard Morin: Browns 26, Chargers 24

Cleveland’s surprising performance may have been a flash in the pan, but you know how I feel about West Coast teams on the road in the 1 p.m. ET time slot. I’ll take the Browns, especially if they remain underdogs in this matchup.

Jordan Mendoza: Chargers 20, Browns 18

Los Angeles is starting to look like a really strong team. After the big win against Baltimore, the Browns revert back to their losing ways despite the play of Jameis Winston.
