Ohio State women’s basketball has earned the No. 14 rank in the country in the USA TODAY coaches preseason poll, the same ranking the Buckeyes hold in the Associated Press preseason poll.

The USA Today preseason poll, like the AP, had two Big Ten teams ahead of the Buckeyes. Coaches voted USC No. 3 and UCLA No. 6. Both are new to the Big Ten this season after the league expanded with the addition of four west coast teams.

Maryland is the only other Big Ten school that cracked the top 25, earning the No. 18 ranking.

The impact of losing last season’s team-leading scorer Jacy Sheldon and Big Ten co-Defensive Player of the Year Celeste Taylor is reflected in Buckeyes’ preseason ranking. The Buckeyes have dropped eight spots from last season’s first coaches poll, where they ranked No. 6.

Ohio State does return key players Cotie McMahon and Taylor Thierry, while also adding ESPN’s Class of 2024 No. 2 recruit, Jaloni Cambridge.

The Buckeyes will start the 2024-25 season by taking on Cleveland State at Value City Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

There are no top-25 teams on Ohio State’s non-conference schedule. Stanford and Cleveland State are the only schools the Buckeyes are set to play outside the Big Ten who earned votes in the preseason polls.
