Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 5 game

October 2, 2024

After the New England Patriots stunned the NFL with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, they’ve slowly become what fans expected at the start of the season. With each passing week, the Patriots‘ offense has looked worse and worse, culminating in a massive defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4. Halfback Rhamondre Stevenson has had problems holding onto the football and no New England receivers have established themselves as elite options.

The Miami Dolphins have had similar struggles, but mainly due to the injury to starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Since his injury, the Dolphins have looked downright atrocious on offense, failing to score a single touchdown against the lowly Tennessee Titans. Both teams have lost three in a row, but one of those streaks will snap this weekend.

Here are our expets’ predictions for this Week 5 showdown.

Lorenzo Reyes: Dolphins 13, Patriots 10

Frankly, I would not touch this game. Miami’s offense is a mess, and quarterback is a massive question. New England isn’t in better shape. Still, Miami has a far better roster, even if it’s a little thin in some spots. That’s the only reason I’m backing the Dolphins here, though not confidently whatsoever.

Tyler Dragon: Patriots 18, Dolphins 16

We are seeing how important Tagovailoa is for the Dolphins. The Dolphins are winless since he was concussed in Week 2. Miami’s Week 4 loss to Tennessee was bad. This should be a low-scoring game, but I’m not confident in Miami’s offense, especially on the road.

Jordan Mendoza: Patriots 13, Dolphins 10

Both offenses are ugly, and this game will not be fun to watch. Miami is having a tough time moving the ball and it continues in New England.
