Muth and National Treasure, who have five top-level victories
between them, are likely to be entered from the Bob Baffert stable to race next
Saturday in the inaugural Grade 1, $1 million California Crown at Santa Anita.

The Hall of Fame trainer pronounced the two colts ready to go after workouts late
this week. Muth added his name to the tab Saturday, going five furlongs in
1:00.4 on the fast main track at Santa Anita, one day after National Treasure
worked a half-mile in 48.8 seconds.

“Muth worked well,” Baffert said, adding a possible third
name to his California Crown lineup. “Maybe Newgate will go. He worked well, but
he’s coming off a layoff. We’ll see how they are the next couple days. So
National Treasure and Muth and maybe Newgate. That’s how it looks right now.”

Newgate, who has not raced since he came in ninth March 30
in the Dubai World Cup (G1), was clocked going five furlongs Saturday in
1:01.00. It was the eighth week in a row the 4-year-old Into Mischief colt
owned by the SF Racing partnership has worked since he returned to training.
His last win came in the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) on March 3.

Muth, who has the 2023 American Pharoah and 2024 Arkansas
Derby victories in his Grade 1 collection, had an impressive comeback win 20
days ago in the Shared Belief Stakes at Del Mar. Owned by Amr Zedan, the 3-year-old
Good Magic colt would have been the favorite in the Preakness if he had not spiked
a temperature three days before the race.

National Treasure is a three-time Grade 1 winner, having
scored in the 2023 Preakness, 2024 Pegasus World Cup Invitational and 2024 Met
Mile. Owned by the SF Racing group, the 3-year-old Quality Road colt will be
out to rebound from his sixth-place disappointment as the odds-on favorite Aug.
3 in the Whitney (G1) at Saratoga.

Entries will be taken and posts drawn Monday for the California
Crown, which last year was run as the $300,000 Awesome Again (G1). Baffert has
trained a record eight winners in the race that began in 1982 as the Goodwood
Handicap.
