The Carolina Panthers are fresh off their first win of the season, 36-22, over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3. Carolina put up a season-high 437 total yards of offense in the win, including 131 rushing yards.

Carolina spent resources in the offseason on offense in free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft. The Panthers signed guards Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt in free agency before trading up to select South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette in the first round of the draft.

Carolina’s second selection of the draft, Jonathon Brooks, out of Texas, was the first running back selected in 2024. However, due to injury, he has yet to play this season. Here’s the latest on Jonathan Brooks’ status.

When was Jonathon Brooks’ injury?

Brooks tore his ACL in Texas’ 29-26 win over TCU on Nov. 11, 2023 and missed the Longhorns‘ games against Oklahoma State and Michigan. He had surgery shortly after and began rehabilitation.

Has Jonathon Brooks been practicing?

Yes, Brooks was on the field during OTAs and was seen in early August participating in drills.

The Panthers placed him on the non-football injury and non-football illness (NFI) list to start the season.

When will Jonathon Brooks play?

Because he was placed on the NFI list, Brooks will miss Week 4. The earliest he can return is Week 5 for Carolina’s game against Chicago. Panthers head coach Dave Canales said Brooks is one of many players that are close to returning to the field.

While Brooks is out, Chuba Hubbard has been the starter with Miles Sanders in the backup role. Hubbard has a team-high 259 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown through Week 3.
