Nashville comedian, musician to perform on 50th season of Saturday Night Live

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – NBC has announced the performers for the first five episodes of the 50th season of Saturday Night Live (SNL).

SNL will launch its 50th milestone season on Sept. 28 with Jean Smart hosting the first episode of the season and Jelly Roll performing.

Smart is a six-time Emmy Award-winning actress who just won her third Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on “Hacks,” NBC said.

Jelly Roll will make his musical guest debut. Right now he is on his tour “The Beautifully Broken Tour.” His album “Beautifully Broken” will be released on Oct. 11.

On Oct. 5, comedian Nate Bargatze from Old Hickory, TN will perform the second weekend.

Bargatze has been on his “Be Funny Tour.” In April, he performed at the Bridgestone Arena.

NBC released the following dates for hosts and performers:

  • Sept. 28-  Host: Jean Smart | Performer: Jelly Roll
  • Oct. 5 – Host: Nate Bargatze | Performer: Coldplay
  • Oct. 12 – Host: Ariana Grande | Performer: Steve Nicks
  • Oct. 19 – Host: Michael Keaton | Performer: Billie Eilish
  • Nov. 2 – Host: John Mulaney | Performer: Chappell Roan

Episodes will broadcast on NBC at 11:30 p.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. PT. SNL will also stream live on Peacock.

SNL will have its 50th anniversary celebratory weekend on Sunday, Feb. 16.
