Could Dhoni Return as an Uncapped Player for IPL 2025? Let’s find it out

As reported by Cricbuzz, the BCCI is contemplating a controversial move to classify retired international players as uncapped. With IPL 2025 player regulations and retention policies yet to be confirmed, Dhoni has expressed that he will wait to review the rules before deciding if he wants to continue playing.
“There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalised, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team,” Dhoni mentioned at a promotional event in Hyderabad earlier in August this year.
Meanwhile, franchise owners are on edge, eagerly awaiting the BCCI’s release of the new retention policy. The anticipation is building as there are growing speculations that the announcement might be delayed until the end of the month. This delay could impact strategic decisions and team planning, leaving fans and franchise officials alike in suspense about the upcoming season’s dynamics.
