The Jacksonville Jaguars host the Cleveland Browns in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season Sunday, and the game seems destined to be played in heavy rain.

Jacksonville (0-1) nearly beat the Miami Dolphins in its season opener but surrendered a 10-point halftime lead by going scoreless in the second half. Travis Etienne Jr. was inches from increasing the lead to 13, but a goal-line fumble was compounded by an 80-yard touchdown for the Dolphins on the next play from scrimmage. The Jaguars eventually lost the game on a last-second field goal.

Cleveland (0-1) didn’t suffer a heartbreaker in Week 1 — more of a nightmare. The Browns fell 33-17 to Dallas, giving up 27 consecutive points. Browns quarterback DeShaun Watson struggled badly, finished with169 yards passing and two interceptions. Cleveland struggled on third down in particular, converting on just 2 of 15 attempts.

USA TODAY: Jaguars 18, Browns 16

Jordan Mendoza writes: “This one will be a defensive slugfest. Jacksonville was able to contain Miami for nearly all game last week, and the Cleveland defense will want to rebound after it got exposed by Dallas. Still, there’s little faith in Deshaun Watson being able to lead the team to a victory.”

Sports Illustrated: Jaguars 23, Browns 16

Peter Dewey writes: “Cleveland struggled mightily at home against Dallas in Week 1, and I think Jacksonville would be viewed a lot differently if it weren’t for one play against Miami. Travis Etienne’s fumble on the goal-line, which set up an 80–yard Tyreek Hill touchdown, changed the game entirely. Instead of being up 24-7, Jacksonville’s lead was cut to 17-14, and it never scored again. I’ll bet on the Jaguars getting back on track at home.”

Bleacher Report: Jaguars 26, Browns 20

Brent Sobleski writes: “Right now, Deshaun Watson is the worst quarterback in the NFL. The question isn’t whether he’ll ever return to form; the Browns simply want him to play average football. He’s not even close to doing so… Until Watson or some other Browns quarterback starts to show signs of life, the rest of what’s a talented roster won’t be viewed as enough.”

CBS Sports: Jaguars 24, Browns 19

Pete Prisco writes: “The Jaguars blew a fourth-quarter lead in losing to the Dolphins, while Cleveland was mauled at home by Dallas. Deshaun Watson was awful. This is a tough ask to bounce back on the road against a Jaguars defense that slowed Miami. Look for Jacksonville to get in the win column.”
