Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Detroit Lions: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 2 game

September 11, 2024

play

A playoff rematch between division winners will take place in the Motor City with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0) facing off the Detroit Lions (1-0).

Baker Mayfield has found a home in Tampa Bay, and it was obvious how good of a fit it is when he led his team to a convincing 17-point win over the Washington Commanders. The former No. 1 pick was the only quarterback to throw for four touchdowns in Week 1, showing this offense is as dangerous as it can get.

In front of another raucous home crowd, Detroit took down former quarterback Matthew Stafford again in an overtime victory. It wasn’t pretty, but the Lions showed off the grit that’s become its persona under Dan Campbell. They’ve beaten a team in beat in last season’s playoffs already, can they do it again with Tampa Bay visiting again?

Lorenzo Reyes: Lions 24, Buccaneers 14

Detroit is coming off an emotional, overtime victory, but the Lions have had success against Tampa Bay recently. The two teams played twice last year — including a divisional round playoff game — and Detroit won by 14 and eight points, respectively. Detroit is the more physical team.

Tyler Dragon: Lions 28, Buccaneers 20

The Lions haven’t started 2-0 since 2017. They have a prime opportunity to get off to a solid regular season start in front of their home fans in the Motor City. Expect Detroit to win the battle in the trenches versus Tampa Bay.

Richard Morin: Lions 31, Buccaneers 20

This could be a high-scoring affair at Ford Field, but even a resurgent Baker Mayfield won’t be enough to outpace the Lions. I like Detroit and the points.

Jordan Mendoza: Lions 26, Buccaneers 24

It may have been a surprise, but Tampa Bay gave Detroit all it could handle in their playoff matchup. Expect this one to be the same, with Tampa Bay having a solid chance of getting revenge on the team that eliminated them. However, Detroit was a little rusty in Week 1 and it shakes it off to get the close victory and move to 2-0 for the first time since 2017.
