The Los Angeles Rams begin the 2024 season on the road against the Detroit Lions in a Week 1 matchup.
It was the Lions who put an end to the Rams‘ season in January with a 24-23 victory in the NFL Playoff Wildcard round.
The meeting between the two teams will also bring back the comparison between Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and Lions quarterback Jared Goff. Stafford was traded to Los Angeles for Goff and three draft picks, including two first-rounders, in March 2021.

Matt Levine writes: “The Lions’ offense poses a lot of problems for the Rams’ defense with their array of playmakers. If the Lions are able to stack stops, their offense could put this game out of hand. Aidan Hutchinson can put pressure on Matthew Stafford, which could lead to multiple turnovers. “
Daniel Stone writes: “The Rams and Lions have each been in big games as recent as last year and both should come ready to fire out of a cannon. Of course, funnily enough, it is Jared Goff (not Matthew Stafford) with the better Sunday night record, but that doesn’t mean Stafford can’t still get the job done here.”
Ben Rolfe writes: “The total is set to be similar to last year’s Wild Card contest, which went under. However, that game had much more tension to it with the stakes in Detroit, so this will likely prove to be a game played with more flowing football.”
Erik Schlitt writes: “After spending an offseason filling holes and attempting to upgrade their rosters, both teams are beginning their seasons with playoff aspirations. The Lions have invested a lot of money in maintaining their offense and improving their defense, while the Rams have had to fill massive holes in their defense, following the retirement of Aaron Donald and the recent trade of MIKE linebacker Ernest Jones.”
