The NFL season is just around the corner, and there have been quite a lot of fights that have been breaking out at practices around the league, as players are itching to get on the field properly. Fights have always been a part of training camp and practice, but this year has seen more than most.

While there are few coaches that may like that chip and aggression at practice, almost all coaches do not. Coaches would much prefer to not see them at practice, and there is one head coach that seems to have figured out how to stop fighting completely with one brilliant punishment.

New England Patriots Head Coach Installed Brilliant New Punishment

While many coaches have struggled to figure out how to stop the fights going on at training camp, New England Patriots new head coach Jerod Mayo has come up with a genius way to avoid all fights at practice completely with just one simple rule. So far, it has had an 100% success rate.

Per  ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the first year head coach told all the players in a meeting that starters who fight at practice will play the entire upcoming preseason game! Then on the flip side, for any backup players who fight, they won’t get to play at all in the preseason game. It is just such a perfect punishment all around for every player.

The starters and veteran players cannot afford to think about playing a full preseason game so that they can be as fresh as possible for the season. The backups on the other hand, need that preseason time to make the team and earn a spot for the regular season.

The punishment is directly attacking the players where it would hurt them most and it is quite comedic as it has been full proof throughout the team’s training camp. We have not seen a fight at camp yet, and it is unlikely we see one from the Patriots camp all preseason.

New England Patriots Plan For Preseason Week 2

When it comes to their second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, there definitely may be some fights on the field, as none of the Patriot players have gotten into it at practice.

The team will have different plans for game play this week then they did in their first preseason matchup. The Mayo era started off well as they got a victory and their were flashes for players that is worthy of optimism.

All the quarterbacks saw the field in their first matchup, with Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye getting the shorter end of that. Maye himself only went 2/3 in passes in his playing time, while Brissett attempted three with no completions.

This game however, will see a lot more playing time from each of those quarterbacks, and will hopefully let Patriot fans get a better look at their No. 3 quarterback. The team will of course evaluate the other two quarterbacks as well, specifically Joe Milton. Milton put on a bit of a show and had the only passing TD of the game; a 38 yard beauty to another rookie JaQuae Jackson.

While the Patriot swill look to continue to build something in their new era, there will almost undoubtedly be no fighting for the rest of training camp. Other coaches should take note and implement the same.
