The Boston Red Sox may be fighting for a postseason spot during the second half of their 2024 campaign, but there’s rightfully a lot of attention on their farm system.
After adding Braden Montgomery in the first round of this year’s draft, the Red Sox appeared to have one of the most talented groups of young talent in baseball.
On Tuesday, Baseball America released their post-draft Top 100 prospect ranking, and there were five members of Boston’s system listed – Marcelo Mayer (No. 10), Roman Anthony (No. 18), Kyle Teel (No. 31), Montgomery (No. 63) and Kristian Campbell (No. 99).
Mayer, who was also at No. 10 in their last update, has hit .306 with an .852 OPS, eight home runs, 38 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 74 games for Double-A Portland.
Anthony, who dropped down one spot, has hit .244 with an .801 OPS, 11 home runs, 29 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 69 games for Portland.
Teel, who dropped four spots, has hit .305 with an .861 OPS, nine home runs, 51 RBIs and six stolen bases in 68 games for Portland.
Boston just selected Montgomery, and he could rise up the rankings quickly once he gets on the field.
Campbell, who dropped 10 spots, has hit .395 with a 1.094 OPS, four home runs, 22 RBIs and seven stolen bases in his 35 games since his promotion to Double-A.
Pitching prospect Luis Perales had been in these rankings earlier in the year before suffering a season-ending injury, so if he returns before one of these players graduates to the majors, it’s possible that the Red Sox will have seven prospects in the top 100.
