The Green Bay Packers are in an interesting spot right now.
Green Bay is loaded with young talent and has a chance to take a step forward in 2024. The Packers surprised people in 2023 and made it deeper in the playoffs than many expected them to.
The Packers’ young roster is another year older now and should be able to make another run at a playoff spot but could still use another boost on defense as they look to make another jump.
One player who somehow still is available is former Denver Broncos superstar Justin Simmons. Sportsnaut’s Matt Johnson put together a list of the top remaining free agents and possible landing spots and linked Simmons and the Packers together.
“Justin Simmons was one of the best players available in (National Football League) free agency when he was released by the Denver Broncos,” Johnson said. “Months later, he’s still one of the top NFL free agents right now. The 30-year-old earned second-team All-Pro honors this past season, though, he isn’t quite the playmaker we saw in 2022. What Simmons can do is be a solid all-around safety who rarely makes mistakes and sticks to his assignments. He’s perfect for a Super Bowl contender or a young defense. Justin Simmons landing spots: Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles.”
Simmons is one of the best safeties in football and is a four-time All-Pro. There’s no way to know why he still is available, but he likely could be signed for cheap right now with training camp right around the corner.
Green Bay could use a boost at safety and Simmons arguably is the best one available. Why not go out and get him right now to help the defense on a discount?
